Pete Clements aka ‘Mudpuddle Cleanslate’ and Leslie Moore aka ‘Chelsea Louloudi’ started a huge project in the latter half of 2014 and what was that project? I hear you ask. We’d both been huge Beatles fans for as long as we could both remember and especially fans of the 1968 comedy cartoon film, ‘Yellow Submarine’. We were both in a position to create something special by way of a tribute to this wonderful movie because we both owned adjacent virtual spaces on the ‘Littlefield Grid’ in Open Sim and were quite accomplished builders and creators. The idea was to translate what had only existed at that time as two dimensional artwork on animation cel into extremely faithful representations of most of the buildings, locations and characters shown in the film but this time in glorious 3D. We concentrated on The Liverpool and ‘Pepperland’ locations first, the latter one being from where the Blue Meanies launch their attack on the unsuspecting inhabitants. And so, we started by obtaining another new virtual space, better known as a ‘Sim’ and set about putting our ideas into reality.
"Once upon a time............ Or maybe twice, There was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland!" So begins the start of the ground breaking animated classic cartoon of 1968, 'Yellow Submarine'. Wouldn't it be great if it were possible to walk around the sets, see the characters close to, fire the Blue Meanies' guns, dodge the Apple Bonkers' apples, climb the Pyramid, walk along Hope Street, explore Ringo’s House and go inside the Yellow Submarine itself? This is all now possible thanks to the work of two talented 3D designers who have, over a period of eight months, reconstructed some of the interiors and most of the characters as featured in the original movie. The main characters, Ringo's house, the Pyramid, Old Bandstand, Blue Meanie Mountain and the Yellow Submarine interior have been meticulously remade and crafted with care, skill and attention to detail. You can read and find out much more about this near two year project and our second Sim, ‘Pepperland II’, which dealt with the Underseas scenes that we didn’t have the space or time to create previously. You can find all this information by clicking on the ‘Virtual Worlds Porthole Button’. If you would like to join the ‘Littlefield Grid’ and explore our two virtual realms for yourself rather than looking at photos and videos, then a good starting point is to visit the Littlefield Website. From here, you can create an account, rent a region, choose a suitable viewer, read the FAQs and much more. Unlike ‘Second Life’ and some other grids in Open Sim, Littlefield does not have a monetary system in place. All content in world is provided free of charge for the residents of Littlefield Grid, and in general created by the users in the community.
